Thanks to Jay Davis for donating: A night at the Sheraton, 2 box seats at the Red Sox, and a $100 Gift Certificate to Ruth Chris' Steakhouse. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement begins in mid-March for grades K-3. Junior Achievement partners with schools to bring education to your child’s classroom and is a great way to participate in your child’s classroom. Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization funded by businesses; foundations and individuals committed to preparing young people for the workforce by educating them about economics and free enterprises. Junior Achievement is provided at no cost to schools and presented by a school parent/guardian volunteer. Each volunteer receives a kit packed with detailed lesson plans, exciting visual aids and engaging activities to teach interactive-hands on program. Junior Achievement is a five week program, once a week, for forty-five minutes during March and April.

Grade 5 D.A.R.E. program

Grade 5 D.A.R.E. program will begin in March 2009. More information will be sent home with your child. The drug education program known as D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is offered to all fifth grade students in the city of Quincy. The purpose of the D.A.R.E. program is to educate your child about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and, by doing so, prevent them from ever getting involved with these harmful substances. The D.A.R.E. program focuses on many topics, such as, understanding consequences, peer pressure, ways to say “NO”, self-esteem, stress, alternatives to drug abuse, and making good decisions. Officer Don Sautter and Officer John Grazioso are the Quincy Police Department D.A.R.E. officers that will be presenting this program to the students.

Our Green Project

The second grade monitored, for one week, the amount of drink containers brought from home throughout the school. We consumed 914 containers! Our goal is to REDUCE that number by using reusable drink containers. The Green Machine (concept vehicle) was used by our Green Team to pick up the containers. It has solar powered lights, wheels that generate electricity as they turn, and a wind something on the front made from all recycled electronic parts. We will be sending home newsletterswith information and ways for you to be involved at home.Go Green!
