BKS Volunteer Opportunities

VOLUNTEERING AT BKS: We know our school is a better place when parents, guardians, grandparents and the community volunteers! Children who have parents or guardians who volunteer at school receive a positive message that says, "Your education matters to me." They also learn the value of community involvement. We welcome any and all levels of involvement and we hope you will find your own volunteer niche at BKS. Whether it is the Library, classroom, PTO/committees, and/or field trips, there are a lot of ways to be involved at BKS.  If you are interested in becoming involved at any level please speak with any member of the PTO Board or send an email to bkspto@gmail.com.  Thank you!!!

Bottle/Can Return – The first Friday of every month BKS parents/guardians drop off bottle/cans at gym door.  We need two (2) volunteers to take bottle/cans to the redemption center to redeem and forward proceeds to BKS school office Attn: PTO Treasurer.  This money is used for the end of year Pizza Party.

School Pictures – Volunteers needed morning and afternoon to walk students from classroom to the gym to have pictures taken.  Pictures Days for 2011 are tentatively scheduled for October 12-14, 2011.

Jr. Achievement – A great way to help participant in your child’s classroom.  A five (5) week program, once a week, forty-five (45) minutes usually happens in February or March.  A program offered to the students by grade level to introduce them to economic roles, roles of families, economic development, local businesses, and career opportunities.

Docent Art – A great way to help and participate in your child’s classroom.  Docent means volunteer.  Once a month, beginning in November and ending in May, one half hour (30 minutes).  Pick up art work at BKS school office and present/discuss five to six pieces of art displayed in poster form to students.

Ice Cream Social – Volunteers needed to distribute ice cream and toppings to students.  This event donates all proceeds to a charitable foundation.

Scholastic Book Fair – Volunteers need to help students locate and purchase books.  This event happens in December 2011 and May 2012.

Movie Night & School Dance – Volunteers needed for these two events to chaperone and distribute snacks throughout the evening.

Teacher Appreciation Bags – Volunteers needed to put bags together with donated items from BKS parents/guardians.  This event takes place one afternoon in May 2012 about an hour to two hours.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon – Volunteers needed to help set up and serve a luncheon to the teachers. This event happens in May 2012.

Garden Club – Volunteers needed to plant flowers in front of school for Memorial Day dedication to Brian Ahern.
